Connect your own Twilio

Booking texts (confirmations, 24-hour reminders, cancellations, reschedules) send exclusively through your own Twilio account. Connecting it is what turns SMS on: without it, TimeTuna sends no booking texts at all.

How it works

  • Your own number: guests see your Twilio number on confirmations, reminders, cancellations, and reschedules.
  • Your own billing, no TimeTuna limit: Twilio bills you directly per message. TimeTuna adds no per-message fees and no monthly cap.
  • Your logs: every message appears in your Twilio console alongside your other traffic, and in the SMS history on your TimeTuna profile.

Connecting your own Twilio requires the Executive plan, the same plan that enables SMS notifications. See Notifications for what TimeTuna sends and when. The only texts TimeTuna itself sends are the phone-verification codes.

What you need

  • A Twilio account: sign up at twilio.com.
  • An SMS-capable phone number purchased on that account (Twilio Console → Phone Numbers).
  • Your Account SID and Auth Token, both shown on the Twilio Console home page under Account Info.
Sending to the US or Canada?
US and Canadian carriers require business senders to register their numbers (A2P 10DLC in the US). An unregistered number will see messages filtered or blocked. Complete the registration in your Twilio console before connecting the number to TimeTuna. Numbers in most other countries need no registration.

Connecting

  1. Open Settings → Profile and find the Connected accounts card. Under SMS sending, click Connect Twilio.
  2. Paste your Account SID, Auth Token, and the sending number in international format, for example +15551234567.
  3. Click Connect and validate. TimeTuna checks the credentials against Twilio and confirms the number belongs to your account and can send SMS. If anything is wrong you get the exact reason immediately.

From that moment every booking text sends through your Twilio account. Disconnecting at any time turns booking SMS off; email notifications continue as usual.

Your Auth Token is stored encrypted and is never shown again in the interface, not even to you. If you rotate the token in Twilio, reconnect with the new one.

Twilio trial accounts
A free Twilio trial account works for testing, but Twilio only lets it text phone numbers you have verified in the Twilio console, and it prepends a trial notice to every message. Real guests will not receive texts until you upgrade the Twilio account. TimeTuna shows a reminder in settings while a trial account is connected.

When sending fails

If your Twilio account stops accepting messages, for example the Auth Token was rotated, the account is suspended, or the number was released, TimeTuna pauses booking texts and emails you. There is no other number to fall back to, so nothing sends until the connection is fixed.

Fix the issue in Twilio, then click Re-validate on the Twilio row under Connected accounts (or enter new credentials). Texts resume immediately. A failed text to a single invalid number does not pause the integration, only account-level failures do.

Troubleshooting

Connecting fails with a credentials error

Symptom: “Twilio rejected these credentials” when clicking Connect and validate.

Why it happens: the Account SID and Auth Token do not match. Auth Tokens are long random strings and easy to truncate when copying, and Twilio subaccounts have their own SID and token pairs.

How to fix: copy both values fresh from the Twilio Console home page (Account Info panel) using the copy buttons, and make sure you are on the main account, not a subaccount.

“Not a phone number on this Twilio account”

Symptom: credentials pass but the sending number is rejected.

Why it happens: the number is not owned by this Twilio account (or belongs to a subaccount), is not SMS-capable, or was typed in a local format.

How to fix: check Twilio Console → Phone Numbers Active numbers. Copy the number exactly as shown, in international format like +15551234567, and confirm the SMS capability icon is present. Alphanumeric sender IDs (like a brand name) are not supported.

Guests stopped receiving texts

Symptom: bookings come in but no SMS goes out, and settings show a red “connection stopped working” banner.

Why it happens: TimeTuna paused sending after Twilio rejected messages at the account level, most often a rotated Auth Token or a suspended Twilio account (unpaid balance).

How to fix: resolve the issue in your Twilio console, then click Re-validate on the Twilio row under Connected accounts. If you rotated the token, enter the new one under Replace credentials.

Still not working: check Twilio's own messaging logs for per-message errors (carrier filtering, unregistered A2P 10DLC number), then contact us below.

Still stuck?

Open with your TimeTuna account email and the error shown in settings. Never share your Auth Token in chat, we don't need it and will never ask for it.
